Looking Back on Four Wander Out Expeditions with Jackie
Some moments stay with you long after an expedition ends. The wildlife encounters, the places that feel almost impossible to describe and the people who experience them alongside you can change the way you see the natural world.
After traveling with Wander Out in French Polynesia, Norway, Raja Ampat and Baja, one guest shared the moments that left the biggest impression and what continues to bring them back.
What moment from the expedition do you still think about the most?
Feeling the vibrations of singer humpback whales in French Polynesia; swimming with orcas within a bowl of snow capped mountains in Norway; diving under part of an island in Raja; and the first drop in clear water with a huge fever of rays in Baja.
Which wildlife encounter left the biggest impression on you, and why?
The encounter that left the biggest impression was a mother and calf in French Polynesia. It was amazing to see how the mother allowed the calf to be curious and us to be there with them while she rested. This was my first expedition and doing anything like this in the ocean so this was a special one!
How did this expedition change the way you see the ocean and wildlife?
Through going on these expeditions, I have learned that there truly can be connections between marine wildlife and humans and if we approach them respectfully they will allow us into their space. I’ve also come to understand how important it is for us to keep advocating, protecting and helping the ocean and wildlife.
What made this trip different from other trips you've taken?
The passion this community has for the ocean and the wildlife is unmatched. I met two of my travel buddies on these expeditions and have now gone on numerous adventures together.
What was your favorite memory with the group?
My favorite group memories are: the group excitement as we get ready to drop; when we’re on the surface of the water after a great encounter and there is so much joy among us; ending the night sharing moments of the day and learning more about each other over dinner.
Did the experience meet your expectations, or surprise you in any way?
Every expedition I’ve done with WanderOut has surprised me and gone above and beyond my expectations!

Describe your expedition in three words.
Respect, hope and connections.
What keeps you coming back to Wander Out rather than booking with someone else?
Kelsey. She is an amazing person who is so inviting, amicable and fun. You’ll love being around her. Her love for the ocean and wildlife shows in the way she runs these expeditions and you’ll learn so much from her.

The Moments That Stay With Us
Wildlife may be what first draws someone to an expedition, but it is rarely the only part they carry home. The anticipation before entering the water, the joy shared after an encounter and the friendships built around the dinner table can become just as meaningful.
Each expedition is different, but approaching the ocean with respect and remaining open to whatever nature chooses to share can leave us with a deeper connection to the places, wildlife and people we meet along the way.
