Fun fact about whales 🐋 🦛

Whales (including orcas) are most closely related to hippopotamuses.

Genetic and fossil evidence shows they share a common ancestor from about 50–55 million years ago.

Which means… whales actually evolved from land mammals.

We have spent many days out on the water swimming with whales and observing them from a distance 🐋

On rare occasion do animals take interest in you and seek an interaction on their terms. This was a very curious juvenile whale who no matter how much you tried to keep your distance would try to get close. I was fortunate enough to see this whale three different times.
One of the times, Barnacles, didn’t want anything to do with us and instead spent the time playing with dolphins, doing backflips 20m below the surface next to the dolphins and gentle pushing them along.

Remember that these kind of interactions are very rare. Always keep your distance and let the marine life decide if they want to come to you or not.

Every year thousands of Mobula Munkiana, or Monk’s Rays, congregate and travel along the coast of the Sea of Cortez. In the Sea of Cortez, we have the opportunity to witness one of the largest and most magnificent spectacles the ocean has to offer. On this expedition, we are out in the open ocean where anything can happen. we have the opportunity to witness the massive schools of aggregating mobula rays, blue whales, fin whales, sperm whales, humpback whales, sea lions, whale sharks, massive pods of dolphins, manta rays, orcas and more.
